AITA for calling my niece's pediatrician about her sleep setup instead of just telling my brother
so my brother (36M) and his wife Temi (33F) had their first kid 6 weeks ago, my niece Ayomide. i went over last sunday to help out since i work nights and had a rare day off. walked in and both of them were asleep on the couch, wine glasses on the coffee table, baby swaddled up and wedged between them on the recliner cushions. not the crib, not even the bassinet next to the bed they bought. i'm an ICU nurse, i've seen what happens when infants suffocate in soft bedding, i didn't even wake them up i just moved her to the pack n play they had folded in the corner and left. i went home and couldn't stop thinking about it so i called the pediatrician's office monday and told the nurse what i saw, figured they'd bring it up gently at the next checkup. instead the doctor straight up told Temi at her 2 month appointment that "a family member reported unsafe cosleeping" and Temi immediately knew it was me because i'm literally the only nurse in the family. now my brother isn't speaking to me, Temi called me controlling and said i humiliated her in front of her doctor, and my mom is telling me i should've just talked to them directly instead of going around them. i think i saved my niece's life. they think i treated them like criminals over one nap.
What People Are Saying
bro called the pediatrician instead of just texting his brother lmao NTA but also maybe try the group chat next time 💀
Not the A-hole, dear. Infant suffocation is a real and tragic risk, and you likely prevented a catastrophe. Sometimes safety trumps politeness.
ngl going over their heads to the pediatrician instead of just talking to them first is a lil unhinged. ESH but ur heart was in the right place 💀
You saved her life and got treated like the enemy for it. Family drama > infant safety apparently. NTA, keep doing rounds like that.
baby girl you went straight to the DOCTOR instead of texting your own brother?? that's cold even if you meant well 😬 NTA on the safety part tho, wine + couch cosleeping is scary!!
Should I stay in my house, move downtown, or move near my daughter in Ohio?
Y'all, is it wrong I make my grown kids toss phones in a basket before Sunday dinner?!
Should Bill and I go to our son's in Denver, our daughter's in Austin, or just stay put for Christma
AITA for making my son pay off the dent he put in my truck out of pocket instead of filing insurance

Technically correct sleep safety wise but going straight to the doctor instead of a direct convo first feels like skipping a debugging step. ESH a little.
