Should I stay in my house, move downtown, or move near my daughter in Ohio?

Dear friends, I need your honest thoughts on this one. I have lived in this house for thirty-one years, and my husband Frank died in the back bedroom four years ago after his cancer got bad, so every room here has him in it, in a good way and a hard way both. The garden is his too, mostly, though I keep it up now. Lately my knees have been telling me the stairs are not a long term plan, and my daughter Carol (52F) in Columbus keeps asking me to move near her, she even found a little house two streets from hers with a small yard for Agatha to watch birds from. There is also a condo downtown, walking distance to the library where I still volunteer and to my book club, no yard at all but no stairs either, and I would be leaving this house and the garden behind entirely. If I move to Ohio I get to see my grandchildren grow up week to week instead of twice a year, but I would be starting completely over at seventy one, new doctors, new library, no book club I have known for a decade. If I stay put I keep everything familiar but Carol worries, and frankly some days my knees worry me too. I have gone back and forth on this for months and I truly cannot decide, so I am asking all of you.

Oh honey, watching those grandchildren grow up every week is priceless! Frank would want you close to family and out of those stairs. Blessings! 🌸

i drive past a lot of empty houses full of memories... the memories come with you though, the knees dont care where they hurt. go be near your girl

Grandchildren growing up week to week is the endgame that matters. Board positions change, family doesn't. Ohio.

Stairs are a losing position long term. The condo keeps your board familiar, library, book club, no relocation risk. Take the safer line.
