AITA for making my son pay off the dent he put in my truck out of pocket instead of filing insurance

my son Danny 16 backed my truck into the neighbors mailbox two weeks ago. quarter panel dent, estimate came back 850 bucks. i could file it on insurance but our rates would go up for six years and i just paid it off last spring. told him he's working it off, 20 a week from his lawn mowing money till its done, no phone upgrade he was saving for either. he says its not fair cause it was an accident and accidents happen, he was pulling out fast cause he was late for practice. my wife Carol 44f agrees with him, says i'm treating him like an employee not a kid and 850 is a lot for a 16 year old to owe his own dad. i grew up paying for every dent i ever put in anything so this feels normal to me but she says times are different now. now he's barely talking to me and Carol keeps bringing up how i never made a big deal when i backed into her mom's car years ago. dent's still not fixed, truck looks like garbage, everyone's annoyed.

Not the A-hole, dear. Responsibility for one's mistakes builds character, and 20 a week is quite reasonable.

bro filing insurance for an 850 dent is rookie numbers lmao NTA teach the kid to drive slow 💀
