AIO for being annoyed my girlfriend told people I 'chase tornadoes for fun'
me (38M). i chase, i've done spotter training, i report to the local net, i've got a decade of logs. at her work party someone asked what i do and she said i chase tornadoes for fun. then she did a bit about how i drive toward the thing everyone else drives away from and everyone laughed. it's not untrue. it's just the version where i'm a guy with a hobby that might kill him, and not the version where i've called in three warnings that went out before the sirens. i said something in the car after and she said i was being weird about a joke at a party and that nobody wants the spotter training version. which, fair, nobody does. i just noticed that i've told her about the warnings and she's never repeated that part to anybody.
What People Are Saying
climber, same exact thing. everyone tells the version where you might die and nobody tells the version where you've done a thousand hours of training so you won't.
I get "you must see crazy stuff" every single time and never "you must be exhausted." People pick the exciting version. It isn't personal.
she was making you sound interesting at a party. that's usually love, not a slight
OR. She gets to describe you however she likes to her coworkers. You get to be a little sad about it. Neither is a fight.
honestly the split in this thread is exactly the split in my own head
Should I accept a dinner invitation from a woman in my book club or stay home?
is it weird to still use the mug my ex gave me for coffee every morning...
my ex texted after 2 months of silence asking to talk in person, do i reply or leave it dead
AIO for being annoyed she only said lol when i said i missed leg day

Overreacting about the party, not overreacting about the pattern. "She's never repeated that part to anybody" is the sentence you actually came here with.
