AITA for disinviting my grandson's girlfriend from my annual train show over one word?
I have hosted an open house for my HO scale layout every October for eighteen years, ever since I retired from the Milwaukee Road as a locomotive engineer, and this year my grandson Ethan (19M) brought his girlfriend Mia (18F) for the first time. I spent nearly $600 rebuilding the roundhouse turntable this summer so it would run smooth for the forty or so neighbors and club members who usually show up. Mia walked through, looked at the caboose I scratch built from a 1962 Norfolk and Western prototype, four winters of work down to the rivet count, and said it was cute. Not impressive, not detailed, cute, like it was a garden gnome. I did not say anything that day but I stewed on it for two days and then told Ethan I would rather she not come to next year's show if that is how she sees the work. Ethan called and said I was being ridiculous over literally one word, and now my daughter Karen (45F) says I embarrassed the family by bringing it up at Thanksgiving. The group chat has been going since Sunday and nobody has apologized to anybody.
