Should Bill and I sell our home of 41 years to be near our grandkids?
Our daughter Karen (44F) just asked if Bill (68M) and I would consider moving down to North Carolina to be closer to her and the grandkids, ages 6 and 9. We are currently in the same house in Ohio we raised all three of our children in, and it is paid off free and clear! Bill has his workshop in the garage and I have forty years of garden beds I have built up with my own two hands. The thing is, our son Michael is in Seattle and our youngest Patricia is in Denver, so no matter what we do we will still be far from two of the three. Karen says there is a lovely little bungalow two streets over from her that just went on the market for around 310,000 dollars, and she keeps sending me the listing photos, bless her heart! Bill says he is willing if it makes me happy, but I can tell in his voice he does not really want to leave his buddies at the VFW or our church family here. I keep thinking about missing bedtime stories and school plays for years to come versus uprooting everything we know at our age. I have not slept right in a week thinking on it.
