AITA for skipping my sister's rehearsal dinner to finish a climb I'd trained a year for?

ok so my sister (29F) is getting married in Moab, i live out of my van and climb full time so this actually worked out great location wise. rehearsal dinner was a friday at 6pm. i had a redpoint attempt booked with my partner (34M) that same afternoon on a route i'd been projecting for literally a year, flights and permits and everything lined up around this one window before the temps got too hot. i told my sister a month out i might be late. we sent it around 5:45, took photos, high fived, then i drove straight there covered in chalk and missed the first hour and a half of dinner, walked in during dessert. her fiancé's (31M) family looked at me like i grew a second head. my mom texted the family group chat saying i "chose a rock over my sister" and now my sister isn't really speaking to me, said she doesn't need me at the actual wedding tomorrow if a piece of stone matters more. i paid for my own flight and stayed for the whole wedding, i just missed rehearsal. she says it's not about the timing, it's that i'd do it again given the choice. she's not wrong tbh.

You admitted you'd sacrifice the same thing again. That's not a mistake, that's a stated priority. ESH but mostly you.

Y'all a month notice ain't the same as showin up on time!! Family comes FIRST, that rock ain't goin nowhere baby 🍲 sorry but you the a-hole here

@bianca_bridalbliss

Oh no no no 😬 the REHEARSAL dinner is basically a dress rehearsal for how you show up for family. Walking in during DESSERT covered in chalk?? Sis you're the A-hole here 💍

@walt_crosswordguy

You informed her a month prior, that counts for something. Though admitting you'd repeat the choice does not help your case.

Family comes first son. Rock dont care if you show up late. Sister does.

@sky_offgrid

a year of work for one window. she got the wedding you got the send. seems fair to me

@darlenek62

I do think you should have found a way to be there for the whole dinner, honey. A year of training is impressive but family moments do not repeat. Blessings 🌸

@moniqued_nola

Y'all it ain't about the rock, it's about her sayin she'd do it again! That's the part that stings, family comes first sometimes ❤️

Ok as a wedding planner this HURTS my heart 💍 rehearsal dinners matter so much for family bonding, missing 90 min for a redpoint is rough timing even if she knew ahead!

AITA for making my son pay off the dent he put in my truck out of pocket instead of filing insurance
