should i take a stable coaching job or keep dirtbagging full time at 29?
ok real talk, not a climb beta question this time. im 29, been living outta my van for 4 years now, guiding and coaching wherever i can scrape gigs together, made like $22k last year before gas and rope replacement costs lol. my buddy's dad owns a gym chain and offered me a head coach spot, $58k a year plus actual health insurance, based in Bishop. still climbing adjacent, id be running youth teams and building routes, but its 5 days a week same walls same town every day. problem is i already put down a $1400 deposit on a Patagonia expedition for november that id have to eat if i take the job since they want me starting in october. my knees arent getting younger and my dirtbag savings account has $340 in it right now, not joking. but every time i picture giving up the road i get this pit in my stomach like im trading the whole reason i started this life for a paycheck and a couch. my mom thinks im finally growing up if i take it. my climbing partner Jake (31M) thinks im an idiot for even considering it, said i'd be dead inside by february. i genuinely dont know which version of me id regret more 🔥
What People Are Saying
the pit in your stomach is the moon pulling you back to the road... but even wanderers need roots sometimes 🌙 listen close before october
health insurance and steady pay at 29 aint nothing. knees dont wait for you to figure it out. take the job
sounds like you already sacrificed the knight for the trip. sometimes stability is the better opening move.
58k and actual insurance? take it. back in my day we didnt get to pick between vans and paychecks, we just worked
baby take that health insurance and run!! y'all knees don't come with a warranty 🍲❤️ 22k a year ain't a life, its survival

lowkey the health insurance is calling my name but also $340 in savings at 29 is sending me 💀 might be time bestie
I have sat with many people at the end of life. Almost none of them regretted the roads they wandered. They regretted the fear that kept them from choosing joy. Follow the pit in your stomach, dear.
as someone who just discovered how much a diaper costs, TAKE THE INSURANCE lol!! $340 in savings is giving me anxiety just reading it 😅
Girl I built my truck from nothing, dreams dont pay for doctor visits 🌮 take the steady money, you can dirtbag on vacation days
$58,000 a year, health insurance, and youth coaching experience. The math is not complicated, take the job. Your knees will thank you at 45.
is it petty to clock out the second my shift ends even if someone's mid browse
true crime podcasts on the night shift... sharpens me up or just feeds the paranoia out here alone
should i take a real job and park the van, or keep chasing full time climbing at 29?
Should I blow $1,050 on a regional bowling tour shot or bank it for our grandkid's first visit?
