should i quit my job to open a tiny brewery taproom, or keep it a hobby?
ok so background, i'm 47, work in HVAC repair for 22 years, decent pay but not exciting. brewing in the garage every weekend for like 8 years now and my buddies keep saying my stuff is better than half the taprooms in town lol. found a tiny 900 sqft spot for rent, landlord's asking $2200/month, would need about $35k to get it fitted with tanks and a bar which is basically our whole emergency fund plus some retirement. my wife (45F) is nervous, not against it exactly but she keeps bringing up our kids (16 and 14) needing braces and eventually college in a couple years. she says if it flops we're starting over at 50 with nothing saved. i get that, i do the math every night and it scares me too. but i also think about doing HVAC until i'm 65 and never finding out if this could've been something. i'm not getting younger and the spot won't sit empty long, some other guy's already asked about it. kids think it'd be cool, wife's on the fence leaning no. i keep going back and forth every single night, feels like i'm fermenting this decision way longer than any of my beers lol. what would you do 🍺

22 years of steady frames and you wanna go for the 7-10 split with the retirement fund? love the dream but the math's the math. keep it a hobby til the numbers pencil out better.
