Should I quit my dev job to stream full time before my lease renews in March?
okay laying this out because i've been going back and forth for weeks. i'm 28M, software dev, make $84k, been streaming on the side for about 3 years and finally crossed 1,200 followers and like 40-60 concurrent viewers most nights (small i know, but it's growing, up from like 12 viewers a year ago). i have $31k saved. my lease is up in march and my landlord already said rent's going up $200/mo either way. the math in my head is: if i quit, i live off savings for 6-8 months, stream 8+ hours a day, actually give it the real shot instead of doing it exhausted after 9 hours of sprint planning and standups. worst case it doesn't work and i job hunt again with a gap on my resume, which in this market is scary ngl. my manager has no idea i'm even considering this. my parents would lose it if i told them (they already think streaming is "not a real job"footnote: their words, not mine). part of me feels like if i don't try it now at 28 i never will, and part of me feels like i'd be burning a stable $84k job for a dream that most people never make rent off of. not asking if streaming is dumb, i know the odds. asking if the math and timing actually makes sense to jump now versus grinding it on the side another year.

$31k is 6 months of OPSEC (operational security, aka not panicking) money, not a business plan. give it one more year on the side first.
