Should I move to Chicago for comedy or stay put with my safe job and Tuesday slot?
ok so a booker from a real club in Chicago saw my clip and said if i move there she can get me on lineups regularly, not open mics, actual booked spots. i've got $6k saved, my lease here is month to month so i could bail in 30 days, and my roommates already said they'd cry (mostly about splitting rent three ways instead of four, love you too guys). but i have a steady day job here, decent insurance, and a Tuesday open mic slot i've spent 8 months clawing up the list for. Chicago has zero guarantee past "i can probably get you stage time," no job lined up, and rent that's not that much cheaper than here honestly. i'm 29 (not 22, my joints remind me daily) and i keep telling myself this is the version of the leap i actually get offered, most people just get told to "keep grinding." but grinding with health insurance hits different than grinding without it.
