AITA for telling my captain my teammate's DUI after she begged me to keep it quiet?
ok so my teammate Dana (28F) and me (26F) have skated together like 2 years, she's usually the one driving our team van to away bouts bc she's got the biggest vehicle. couple weeks ago after practice we're getting beers and she tells me she got a DUI, like actually cried about it, made me swear not to say anything bc she's scared of getting cut from the roster. thing is our league bylaws literally say nobody with a DUI can drive the team van, it's an insurance thing, if something happened and it came out later the WHOLE team could lose coverage at our rink. she was scheduled to drive us to Cleveland next month for our biggest bout of the season. i sat on it for like a week feeling sick about it, then i finally told our captain (34F) privately just that Dana shouldn't drive, didn't even say why at first. captain reassigned the van duty quietly but Dana put it together it was me bc i'm literally the only one who knew. she hasn't spoken to me since, blocked me on everything but team group chat, and now half the team is saying i broke her trust for no reason bc nothing even happened, and the other half is saying i did the right thing bc i could've gotten everyone's insurance yanked. i genuinely dont know anymore, i keep replaying the conversation where she was crying and i just feel like garbage 😩
What People Are Saying
Honey you did right by that WHOLE team!! Insurance aint no joke and safety first every time 💕🎤
literally NTA insurance is not a joke she couldve killed someone ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ tell your team to get a grip
You made the call that keeps people safe. Feelings dont matter when lives do. NTA end of story.
Back in my day you didnt let a drunk driver haul the whole crew around just to spare feelings. You did right. Insurance dont care about tears.
You reported a legitimate safety and liability issue; her tears, while understandable, don't override insurance law (also, she put herself in this position, not you). NTA.
bro insurance is not the hill to die on, DUI + team van = nah you did the math right NTA 💀
as a Dana i can confirm we are unhinged and probably shouldn't drive vans (NTA, insurance jokes write themselves)
wait her name is DANA and ur name is also dana this is literally a sitcom NTA insurance is not a joke bestie ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
DUI + driving a van full of people = high probability event you don't wanna verify in real time. you called it before the storm hit. NTA
mija if something happened on that van ride the whole team pays for it, not just her. you did the right thing 🌮 NTA
insurance rules aren't suggestions. you protected the whole team, that's not snitching, that's leadership. NTA
