AITA for banning my best friend's kids from my coop after we lost two hens?
my best friend gray (34m) and his wife dana (33f) bring their twin girls out to the cabin every summer, three years running. i live off grid so the flock isnt a hobby its part of how i eat, twelve barred rocks plus eggs i trade for gas and flour in town. last visit the girls got bored during dinner and let themselves into the run to pet them, left the gate open. lost two hens to a fox that night, found feathers all the way to the treeline. gray felt bad, offered me forty bucks like that covers it. i told him the girls arent allowed near the coop anymore, period, not even watched. he said im treating his kids like criminals over chickens. dana said i couldve just installed a better latch instead of humiliating a 7 year old. maybe. but this isnt a backyard flock with a costco run five minutes away, its actual food and i cant just shrug it off. they left a day early. gray hasnt texted since, dana posted something in our old group chat about people who value animals over friendships. not sure if im wrong for drawing a hard line or if i shouldve just eaten the loss and moved on
