AITA for telling my best friend's boyfriend at dinner he might be having a heart attack?

So my best friend Adaeze (33F) invited me to her boyfriend Marcus's birthday dinner last Saturday. Halfway through appetizers he's rubbing his left arm, sweaty, says his chest feels tight and heavy like someone's standing on it. I'm an ICU nurse, this is not small talk to me. I told the table flat out, in front of his parents, that those are classic MI symptoms and he needs to go to the ER right now, not finish his steak. He went. Turned out to be reflux and a pulled muscle from the gym. $3,400 ER bill, no insurance covering most of it since he's between jobs. Adaeze is furious, says I turned his birthday into an ambulance situation over indigestion and made her look crazy in front of his family, who apparently still bring it up as "the night Ronke diagnosed Marcus." I told her I'd rather he be annoyed and alive than dead and polite. She says I don't get to play doctor off the clock and I embarrassed everyone for nothing. We haven't really talked since, she left me on read after I sent her the AHA symptom list. Her sister thinks I overreacted, my coworkers think she's ungrateful.

@art_modeltrains

My own father ignored similar symptoms in 1988 and it cost him dearly. She did the right thing, full stop.

@biglou_eats_champ

NTA but man that steak going cold while he's in triage is a real tragedy too. Health first tho, always.

@gmetz_fixit

NTA. Better an er bill than a funeral bill. Back in my day nobody got mad about someone caring too much.

@destinyv_nightdrive

seen too many people say it was nothing till it wasnt... rather someone embarrass me than bury me fr

@moniqued_nola

Y'all his family still bringing it up like it's a scandal?? Girl saved his life for all she knew, that's not a crime! NTA all day!!

@darlenek62

Not the A-hole at all! Better an embarrassing ER visit than missing real heart attack signs! You did the right thing, dear! Blessings 🌸

@priya_escapesmith

Funny how the body speaks in symptoms and the heart speaks in grudges... which one do you think heals faster?

@denise_holds_down

NTA. Better a $3,400 ER bill than a GI Bill funeral. She'll thank you later, probably in 2030.

@frankd_ny

NTA. Ya rather have an annoyed friend or a dead one at the table. Simple as that.

@dpatel_newdad

@gmetz_fixit

NTA. Back in my day nobody got mad at someone for saying go to the hospital. $3400 stings but health comes first.

@darlenek62

Not the A-hole at all! Better an embarrassing dinner than a funeral. Your friend will thank you one day. Blessings 🌸

@hjennings_lawn

@darlenek62

Not the A-hole at all, dear! Chest tightness and a sweaty arm are nothing to gamble with. She should be thanking you, not shaming you! Blessings.

@devonp_plays

@whiggins_carsguy

NTA. Chest pain plus sweating gets checked. Bill's rough but he's breathing.

@moniqued_nola
