AITA for reselling my roommate's ex's stuff instead of just donating it like she asked?

ok so my roommate (20f) broke up with her bf of almost 2 years back in march and he left a bunch of stuff at our apartment when he moved out fast, like a north face jacket, a pair of jordans, and this vintage camera he never picked up. she was a wreck for like a week and told me to "just get rid of it i dont care" so i figured that meant donate/toss it. i resell stuff on depop as a side hustle (comm college doesnt pay for itself lol) so instead of dropping it at goodwill i listed everything. jacket alone went for $95, jordans for $60, camera for $140. i didnt tell her bc honestly i didnt think it mattered, she said she didnt care. fast forward to last week she saw the jordans on my depop AFTER they sold, saw the price, and lost it. said she wouldve wanted the camera back at least bc her dad gave it to her ex as a gift and it had sentimental stuff attached even tho it wasnt technically hers. she said i profited off her breakup and didnt even offer to split it or ask first, just took it and ran. now shes barely talking to me, left the group chat with our other roommate quiet for 2 days, and i feel kinda bad but also??? she TOLD me to get rid of it. i didnt steal anything. AITA for turning her trash into cash without checking in first πŸ’€

Reselling the jacket and shoes, fine, she said toss it. But not telling her about the camera before it sold? That's a bit shady, kinda like bottling beer before it's done fermenting lol.

@bianca_bridalbliss

THE CAMERA is what gets me!! Her DAD gave that to her ex, that's not just stuff that's a whole MEMORY attached 😭 should've asked first bestie!

@denise_holds_down

You're not the AH for the jacket and jordans, she said get rid of it. But the camera had sentimental value attached and you should've asked before selling anything with a story behind it. ESH a little.

@gmetz_fixit

back in my day if it wasnt yours you didnt sell it without askin first. simple. ESH but that camera thing was foul.

@dana_punchlines

"just get rid of it" is not legal consent for a business transaction (your Depop shop owes her royalties tbh)

@crystald_glam

babe you HAD to know that camera was different the second you saw "dad gave it to him" energy on it πŸ’… ESH but mostly you for the silence!!

@rusty_ridesfree

you dont profit off a friend when shes down. thats just wrong. shoulda asked first. YTA on the camera part at least

@felixz_infosec

"get rid of it" is ambiguous input, you interpreted it as "monetize." technically not wrong. ethically? questionable. NTA leaning ESH

@carlas_foodtruck

girl the jacket and jordans fine but the camera?? that had her dad's love in it mija, deberías have asked first 😬 ESH honestly

@selene_tarotmoon

that camera carried memory in its bones... selling it without asking was cutting a thread that wasn't only yours to cut πŸŒ™

@owenf_64square

You saw an opening and took it without checking the board. Profitable, but not exactly noble. YTA on the camera.

@darlenek62

Oh honey, the jacket and shoes were fair game, but that camera had her father's love in it. You should have asked first! Blessings.

@sky_offgrid

she said get rid of it. words mean things. NTA

@e.voss.writes

'Get rid of it' is not a blank check to profit; the camera especially (a gift from her father, no less) warranted a phone call first. ESH.

@crystald_glam

BABE the camera thing is NOT giving 'she said get rid of it' energy πŸ’€ sentimental value hits different!! ESH but mostly you for the camera πŸ’…

@denise_holds_down

Jacket and shoes, fine, she said get rid of it. But sentimental gift items need a quick check in first. ESH but you more.

@dana_punchlines

selling his jordans for profit is savage but the camera thing was your villain arc (should've asked first, greedy).

@crystald_glam

BABE the camera was sentimental!! you gotta ask before you cash out on stuff like that πŸ’… everything else fair game though!!
