Should I quit my day job to open for a touring comic for six unpaid weeks?
ok so context, i (29F) do marketing for a dental insurance company by day (glamorous i know) and comedy at night for like three years. last week after my set a booker for a mid level touring comedian, not famous famous but he's got a Netflix half hour and a real fanbase, asked if i wanna open for him on a 14 city run this fall. no pay, they cover hotel and gas but that's it. six weeks unpaid, full send. my day job won't do unpaid leave that long, i already asked, my manager Priya (41F) said it's "not really how we operate" (love that for me). so it's actually quit or say no, there's no middle option. i've got $6,800 saved which sounds like a lot until rent happens again. my roommates think i'd be an idiot to pass this up. my mom thinks i'd be an idiot to take it. my boyfriend just keeps saying "whatever makes you happy" which helps exactly zero percent (thanks babe). i keep doing math at 2am and it never comes out clean. this could be the thing that actually gets me somewhere or it could be six weeks of gas station snacks before i'm back at a temp desk in january, fully humbled. need the internet to just tell me what to do since apparently i can't.

unpaid for six weeks with a boyfriend who says 'whatever makes you happy' is not a plan, that's a vibe. get a number that scares you less then decide.
