i've rented this storefront for 9 years now... built the whole shop from nothing, the string lights, the reading nook in the back, all of it. my landlord frank (62m) is retiring and told me quietly, before he lists it, that i can buy the building for $210k if i want first dibs. otherwise he sells to whoever, and the realtor already mentioned two developers sniffing around who'd probably gut it into condos or a vape shop lol. i have about $58k saved from nine years of readings and candle sales. i could get a loan for the rest but my mortgage payment with taxes and insurance would be almost $2200/month, way more than my current $1650 rent. business is good but it's tourist-tide good, mercury retrograde slow in winter, packed in october. if i buy it i'm tied here forever, no more daydreaming about salt lake city or asheville. if i don't, some stranger owns my life's work and could raise my rent or kick me out whenever. my tarot deck keeps giving me the wheel of fortune which feels like a cop out answer honestly. asking actual humans instead of the cards for once
