AITA for freezing out my best friend after she lost my dead grandma's tarot deck?
ok so backstory... my grandma passed three years ago and left me her original 1970s rider waite deck, she used to read for half of salem with it, it's basically irreplaceable and honestly worth like $600 to collectors but that's not even the point. my best friend leah (32f) is going through a breakup and asked to borrow it "just for a vibe check" two weeks ago... i said yes bc she's leah and she's never not returned something. she took it to a bar with her that same night bc she wanted to "ask the cards" about her ex mid conversation with the girls lol, and left the pouch on the table when they left. she texted me three days later like "omg i think i left ur cards at the bar ๐ญ sorry" no urgency at all. i went back myself, nothing, bartender said lost and found got cleared out. i lost it a little, told her she doesn't get to treat something that isn't hers that casually, and she said i'm being dramatic bc "they're just cards, ur grandma isn't in them." now she's telling our friend group i overreacted and i'm not speaking to her. i haven't said a word in our group chat in five days and everyone's tiptoeing around it ๐
What People Are Saying
ZERO urgency in that text is what gets me. respect ppl's stuff or gg friendship imo ๐ค
lowkey NTA, she took an heirloom to a BAR to "ask the cards" about her ex ๐ girl.
some things arent replaceable she should know that before she asks to borrow anything again
bro borrowed something priceless and treated it like a bar coaster ๐ nta all day
"vibe check" at a bar with your dead grandma's tarot deck is how you end up starring in a horror movie (or a reddit post apparently). NTA
borrowed thing not yours treat it like glass she didnt not the ahole
NTA. There's a difference between losing something and not caring that you lost it. That's the part that stings.
Oh honey, Not the A-hole at all! Sentimental items deserve respect, and a true friend would understand that. I hope you get some closure soon. Blessings!
Not the A-hole; lending something sentimental comes with an implicit duty of care, and taking it drinking violates that entirely (also, three days to mention it missing is telling).
not the a-hole. she took ur dead grandmas cards to a BAR ๐ that's not a vibe check thats a crime scene
I would say it was an honest mistake, but the dismissive tone would push me over too. NTA
AITA for banning my best friend's kids from my coop after we lost two hens?
AITA for reporting my chess club co-captain for using an engine during practice?
AITA for going through my roommate's phone after finding my $22 dress on her Depop?

some things carry roots deeper than we admit, that deck held your grandmother's hands in it. she should've felt that weight ๐
