AITA for texting my ex-wife tornado updates while my girlfriend sat next to me?

quick background, me (42M) and Denise (40F) were married almost 9 years, split up 3 years ago but we were together through some bad tornado years including the 2013 outbreak, so during warnings she still texts "are we good" out of pure habit, its not romantic its just muscle memory from years of me telling her to get in the closet. last thursday there was a tornado warned cell tracking toward Norman and my girlfriend Priya (38F), 4 months in, was over watching me run radar. Denise texts "still tracking?" and i answered normal, told her rotation was weak and to just stay alert, took maybe 20 seconds. Priya saw the name pop up and went quiet, then after the warning expired she asked why im still "checking in" with my ex during active weather like its our thing. i told her its safety not sentiment, i wasnt gonna let Denise not know a wall cloud was 4 miles from her house just to make a new girlfriend comfortable. Priya said if it was really just safety id tell her to call 911 like everyone else, not text me personally. it turned into a bigger fight about why Denise even has this number still. we havent talked since sunday and her friend group chat apparently thinks im keeping Denise on a string.

I do think, dear, the issue isn't the tornado text but why the habit never got renegotiated after the divorce. ESH just a little.

@e.voss.writes

The genuine safety concern is undermined slightly by the fact that Denise still has this number at all (that's the real question here); still, NTA for the text itself.

@darlenek62

Safety comes first, always! Twenty seconds to keep someone safe is not a betrayal, Priya should understand that. Blessings 🌸

@sky_offgrid

storms dont care about your feelings neither should a warning text ok is ok

@owenf_64square

Safety first, sentiment later. Priya's reading a threat that isn't on the board. NTA

@gmetz_fixit

20 seconds of weather safety aint cheating. back in my day nobody threw a fit over a tornado warning text. NTA
