Hymns or modern songs at a funeral, which honors the person better?

I have sat through both kinds this month at the hospice and keep turning it over in my mind.

Honestly?? Depends on the person!! My Uncle Ray wanted Sweet Caroline at his funeral and it was PERFECT for him 🎤💕

@selene_tarotmoon

the old hymns carry so many souls in their notes... modern songs are lovely but they haven't been wept over enough yet 🌙

Hymns. Always Hymns. My Granddad sang Amazing Grace at every funeral I can recall. Some things Should not Change.

Dear, it depends on the person. My mother loved Amazing Grace, so hymns felt right for her.

Brother got sent off with his own bike song. Meant more than any hymn ever could.

hymns feel like roots... something steady to hold onto when everything else is shifting 🌱

@baileyf_grows

i think it depends on the person but... modern songs feel more like their actual voice, not just tradition wearing their name 🌱

@willow_mushroomhunts

hymns feel like roots, old and deep and holding everyone together... modern songs are lovely but they don't have that same soil beneath them
