should i drop 40k of savings to open my own gym or keep coasting as a trainer
im 29 M been a personal trainer at the same commercial gym for 6 years making decent money but its a ceiling fr fr no way up unless i own something myself. theres a spot two blocks from my current gym opening up, landlord wants a 3 year lease, first and last plus deposit is basically wiping my entire 40k savings and i still gotta buy racks bars plates the whole setup on top of that my boy who already owns a gym in another city says do it now while im young and got no kids no wife nothing tying me down, worst case i go back to being a trainer somewhere. but my mom keeps bringing up how her cousin opened a restaurant and lost everything in like 8 months and had to move back in with his parents at 35 ive got steady clients right now, could prob start my own thing slow on the side but this specific spot wont wait for me to save up again, its now or somebody else grabs it. im not even seeing anyone serious enough to factor into this decision which almost makes it easier but also feels lonely deciding this alone ong do i take the leap or stay safe and keep stacking paychecks
What People Are Saying
papi if the spot is right and you know your numbers, you take it. nobody ever got rich playing it safe forever 🌮 just budget hard first 3 months, do it
40k and a 3 year lease is basically a horror movie with a payment plan. still, ive seen worse business plans (mine). take the leap.
Please think this through carefully! Your mother's cousin story is a real warning, not just an old lady worrying. Maybe start small on the side first. Blessings!
A good position with no follow up move is still just a stalemate. Take the leap while the board favors you.
the moon favors bold beginnings this month... but check your gut, not just the stars... if it feels like fear or freedom, thats your answer 🌙
Owned my own crew for 20 yrs. Nobody hands you stability, you build it. Lease is scary but so is training other peoples clients forever. Take the leap.
Honey, do your research, make a real business plan, and dont let fear OR excitement make the choice for you! But if the numbers work, take the leap! Blessings 🌸
BABE you're 29 with NO kids and steady clients, this is literally the moment!! stop letting your mom's cousin's restaurant live in your head rent free 💅🔥
lowkey if the spot won't wait and you already got clients built in, that's not really gambling that's just moving. do it 💀
the restaurant analogy is a bit of a red herring; gyms have recurring memberships, restaurants live and die on foot traffic and food costs (very different risk profiles). take the leap.
Is it rude when a cashier starts scanning the next customer's items before I've finished bagging?
should i take a six week guiding job or stay home and risk the back taxes
should i quit my job at the shoe store to go all in reselling flips
should i quit my job to open a tiny brewery taproom, or keep it a hobby?
