Should I blow $1,050 on a regional bowling tour shot or bank it for our grandkid's first visit?
I'm 54, been in this league for almost 20 years, own 6 balls and a laminated stat sheet my kids mock me for. Got invited to qualify for a PBA50 regional event two states over. Entry fee alone is $650, plus gas and a hotel puts it at $1,050 total. My avg has been climbing, I shot a 279 last month, and part of me thinks this is the year I actually see what I've got against real competition instead of Tuesday night league scrubs (love you guys). Problem is my wife Carol (52F) and I have been saving that exact amount, give or take, for flights to Denver when our daughter has her baby in the spring. She hasn't said no outright, she just went quiet and said "it's your money too" which in 30 years of marriage I have learned means she's not thrilled. I could probably scrape together a smaller stake some other way but not before the entry deadline next week. Kids think I'm nuts for even considering it. I think about that 300 game on my wall and wonder if I'm chasing something real or just being a stubborn old man with a rack of balls in the garage.
Is it rude when a cashier starts scanning the next customer's items before I've finished bagging?
