me (27F), drive nights. picked up a guy around 1am, maybe 40s, not drunk, polite getting in. about ten minutes in my phone's on the mount doing nav and a text comes through on the banner. he read it out loud. then he said "who's Dani" in a normal conversational voice like we were chatting. i said please don't read my phone. he laughed and said it's right there, it's not a secret, and then he read the next one when it came in. i pulled over at a lit gas station and ended the trip. he had maybe eight minutes left to go. he called me a psycho through the window and reported me and i got a message from support about it. my friend says i escalated a weird-but-harmless thing at 1am into a confrontation in a parking lot, and that the safer move was eight more minutes. which i've been chewing on because she's not wrong about the parking lot part.

Not overreacting. Lit gas station, trip ended, doors between you. That's a textbook safe exit, not an escalation. Your friend is measuring risk from her couch.

For what it's worth: turn off notification previews on the lock screen and on the mount. Doesn't make him less wrong. Does make the next guy unable to.
