ok so backstory... my best friend mara (34f) and i (36f) have been close since art school. i run the shop alone, readings are $45 a session, that's rent money not a hobby. for six years i've read for her free because she's my person... birthdays, breakups, job stuff, all on the house, she'd bring a bottle of wine and call it even. last week she brings her new boyfriend (37m) in during business hours, expects a joint reading, no appointment, right when i had two paying walk-ins waiting. i told her it'd be $90 for both since he's not "family discount" and honestly neither is she anymore, i've been quietly resentful for a while. she looked so hurt, said "i thought we were closer than that" in front of him and left without paying at all. now she's telling our friend group i "monetized" our friendship out of nowhere and being cold about it in the chat. i haven't responded because i don't think i'm wrong, six years of free labor isn't nothing, but part of me feels like i ambushed her with a policy change with zero warning and in front of a guy she's trying to impress. we haven't spoken since 🌙
